Outreach

Luke 10:2 – Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

Street Ministry

Danny during a season of homelessness, sitting in a car with belongings.

When I was 20, I remember asking God, “What could lead someone to become homeless? What could make a person lose hope?” Eighteen years later, I would learn the answer the hard way. After a series of poor choices, I woke up one day in a place I could no longer afford. With just a few belongings, I loaded my car and drove off, not knowing where I was headed. I had no friends to turn to, my family felt out of reach, and I was weighed down by guilt and shame from the choices i had made. Jobless, uninsured, half a tank of gas, $60 in my pocket, and a heavy sense of uncertainty, I finally understood how someone could end up without a place to call home, feeling completely lost and alone. I drove off into the unknown.

Every day, we pass by them—on street corners with cardboard signs, huddled in alleyways, and sitting on sidewalks. Often, we quickly turn our heads, looking away as we pass. In those moments, thoughts come to mind: If I give them money, they’ll probably just buy drugs or alcohol. We convince ourselves with reasons to avoid eye contact, to keep walking, or to ignore their outstretched hands. But the reality is, we don’t know the story behind each face. We don’t know the struggles they’ve endured, the challenges that brought them here, or the hardships they face daily. Perhaps they once had a stable life, a home, a family, or dreams like anyone else. Maybe they encountered an unexpected loss, a setback, or circumstances beyond their control. When we assume the worst, we strip away their humanity and reduce them to stereotypes. Each person has a history, a journey, and, most importantly, a future that can change. While we may never understand the full depth of their story, we have the choice to show compassion by recognizing them and give them dignity.

This ministry exists to bring hope and restoration to those living on the streets—something only God can truly do. Through simple acts of outreach, I provide food bags with basic necessities like food, snacks, and water, along with a Bible and a reference to Matthew 6:33, reminding people that while these provisions meet a temporary need, God offers lasting restoration and life.

I cannot do this work alone, which is why I encourage others to get involved where they are. You can start small—gather a group at your church, create your own food bag outreach, or even hand out an envelope with a few dollars and a note of encouragement. Sometimes the greatest gift is letting someone know they are seen, valued, and loved by God.
